Minecraft biome finder
Pick a biome to highlight it on the map and list the nearest places it appears. Cave biomes depend on the Y-level.
Biome, Y-level and search area
Bedrock Edition isn't supported yet
Bedrock places structures and slime chunks differently from Java, so we don't show Java results for a Bedrock world. Bedrock support is coming. Switch to Java to use the map.
How to use the biome finder
- Enter your seed (
/seedshows it) and the Java version the area was generated in. - Choose a biome. The map dims every other biome, and the list shows the nearest separate patches.
- Set the Y-level. Since 1.18, biomes change with height: lush caves, dripstone caves and the deep dark are underground, so the finder starts them at Y 0 and surface biomes at Y 64.
- Copy a result and use it with
/tp(needs cheats), or walk there using the coordinates on your F3 screen.
Each listed point is inside the biome at that Y-level, both at the block and in the 4 × 4 × 4 cell the game stores biomes in. If a biome doesn't exist in the version you picked, the finder says so instead of searching for something else.
Finders for one biome
- Lush cave finderLush caves with the Y-levels where they're most common.
For villages, fortresses and other structures, use the structure finder. For ores, see the best Y-level for every ore.
How common each biome is
Share of the land and sea at Y 64 taken up by each biome. Forests, plains and oceans dominate; the biomes most players hunt for are much rarer, which is when a finder saves the most time.

|---|---|---|
| 1 | Forest | 11% |
| 2 | Plains | 9.2% |
| 3 | Ocean | 7.2% |

Cave biomes by Y-level
Underground, the biome depends on height. Lush and dripstone caves are most common around Y 0, while the deep dark only takes over near the bottom of the world. Set the finder's Y-level to one of the busier rows to find more results.
| Y-level | Lush caves | Dripstone caves | Deep dark |
|---|---|---|---|
| Y 64 | 0.6% | 3.5% | 0% |
| Y 32 | 3% | 9.1% | 0.1% |

| Y 0 | 9.8% | 12.7% | 0.8% |
| Y -16 | 9.7% | 8.4% | 1.6% |
| Y -32 | 5.4% | 4.3% | 4.2% |
| Y -48 | 1.9% | 1.8% | 8.6% |

Nether biomes
Switch the dimension to the Nether to search these. Nether biomes are the same at every height.

| Nether wastes | 36% |
| Crimson forest | 22% |
| Soul sand valley | 16.9% |
| Basalt deltas | 16.3% |
| Warped forest | 8.7% |

What has been checked against the game
Lush caves were checked on a real Java 1.21.1 server for 10 seeds: all 50 of our results were lush caves in game, and all 30 places the game's /locate biome found were lush caves on our map. Other biomes come from the same engine but haven't been checked one by one yet.
Frequently asked questions
How do I find a biome in Minecraft?
Enter your seed, choose the biome and the Y-level, and the finder lists the nearest patches with X, Y and Z. The map dims every other biome.
Can it find cave biomes?
Yes. Since 1.18 biomes change with height, so the finder searches at the Y-level you set. Lush caves, dripstone caves and the deep dark start at Y 0. For lush caves there is also a lush cave finder.
Why does the finder say a biome isn’t in my version?
Some biomes were added later, such as cherry grove in 1.20 and pale garden in 1.21.4. We never search with a different version’s rules, so the finder says so instead.
Can I search Nether biomes?
Yes. Set Dimension to Nether, or open the Nether seed map.
How do I find my Minecraft seed?
In Java Edition, type /seed in chat. It works in single player even with cheats off; on a server you need operator rights.
