Bedrock Edition isn't supported yet
Bedrock places structures and slime chunks differently from Java, so we don't show Java results for a Bedrock world. Bedrock support is coming. Switch to Java to use the map.

What are trail ruins?
Trail ruins are the buried remains of an old village. Players dig them up for archaeology loot: pottery sherds, armor trims and a rare music disc. 5 things to look for inside:
- Suspicious gravel to brush
- Pottery sherds: burn, danger, friend, heart, heartbreak, howl and sheaf
- Wayfinder, raiser, shaper and host armor trim templates
- The music disc Relic
- A terracotta and glazed terracotta tower
Where trail ruins generate
Trail ruins generate in taiga, snowy taiga, old growth spruce taiga, old growth pine taiga, old growth birch forest and jungle. Most of the structure is underground; usually only the top of the central tower shows.
This is how the trail ruins in our test areas split between biomes:
| Biome | Share of trail ruins |
|---|---|
| Jungle | 28.3% |
| Taiga | 25.7% |
| Old growth birch forest | 18.6% |
| Snowy taiga | 18.1% |
| Old growth spruce taiga | 5.1% |
| Old growth pine taiga | 4.2% |
Measured with our engine on 10 test seeds, Java 1.21.1, in an area of 8,192 × 8,192 blocks around 0, 0 for each seed. Biome taken at the centre of each start chunk, at Y 64.
How far apart trail ruins are
The game splits the Overworld into square regions of 34 × 34 chunks (544 × 544 blocks) and makes one attempt in each. Our test areas held about 227 regions each and between 15 and 45 trail ruins, so about 9% of regions got one.

The median is a typical seed. Yours can be much closer or further, which is why the finder lists results for your exact seed.
Tips for finding and exploring trail ruins
- Brush suspicious gravel to get the loot. The rare blocks hold the sherds, trims and the Relic disc.
- Look for coloured terracotta poking out of the ground: the rest is buried in gravel and dirt.
- Dig carefully. Suspicious gravel falls and breaks if a block next to it changes.
How to use the coordinates in game
- Press F3 to see your own X and Z, then head towards the result’s X and Z. Trail ruins are mostly buried just under the surface.
- With cheats on, tap a marker or Copy and run
/tp @s X ~ Z; the~keeps your current height. - The coordinates are the north-west corner of the chunk the trail ruins starts in, the same chunk
/locate structure minecraft:trail_ruinspoints to.
Set “Search near” to your base or the map centre to list trail ruins around a different spot. To see trail ruins next to every other structure type, use the structure finder.
How accurate the trail ruins finder is
We started a real Java 1.21.1 server for 10 test seeds. Our nearest result to 0, 0 matched the game’s /locate on 7 of 10 seeds, and the game confirmed 42 of the 49 trail ruins we listed. Depends on the terrain, which the map can only estimate, so some results may not exist. Check in game. Other versions haven’t been checked against the game yet.
Bedrock Edition: Java only for now
Bedrock uses its own structure placement, which we haven’t rebuilt yet. A Java map would point you to the wrong places, so the finder doesn’t show Bedrock results yet.
