How to use the structure finder

  1. Get your seed with /seed. In single player it works with cheats off; on a server it needs operator rights.
  2. Pick the Java version the area was generated in. Chunks generated in an older version keep their old structures.
  3. Tick the structures you want. The list shows the nearest ones to the "Search near" point, closest first.
  4. Tap a result to centre the map on it, or Copy to get X ~ Z for /tp @s X ~ Z (needs cheats).

Coordinates are the north-west corner of the chunk the structure starts in. The game's /locate structurecommand points to the same chunk. The finder doesn't give a Y-level, and neither does /locate.

Finders for one structure

Each structure has its own finder, set to that structure, with where it generates, what's inside and how accurate the results are.

See every finder, biomes and slime chunks included, on the all finders page.

Looking for a biome rather than a structure? Use the biome finder. For ores, see thebest Y-level for every ore until the exact ore finder is ready.

How common each structure is

Most structures follow a grid: the game splits the world into square regions and makes one attempt in each, which only succeeds in the right biome. The bigger the region, the rarer the structure. Strongholds are the exception: they sit in rings around the world's centre, so the first ones are always a long way from 0, 0.

Measured with our engine on 10 test seeds, Java 1.21.1, in an area of 8,192 × 8,192 blocks around 0, 0 for each seed.

Mineshafts are by far the most common, at about 16 per 1,000 × 1,000 blocks, while a woodland mansion was missing entirely from most of our test areas. The median distance is a typical seed; your own nearest structure can be much closer or further, which is why the finder lists results for your exact seed.

How accurate each structure is

We started a real Java 1.21.1 server for 10 seeds and asked the game. "Nearest" is whether our nearest result to 0, 0 is the one /locate returns. "Listed results" is how many of our listed results the game confirmed.

StructureNearestListed results
Village, trial chambers, ocean monument, shipwreck, ocean ruins, buried treasure, ruined portal (Overworld and Nether), nether fortress, bastion remnant, end city10/10all 50
Pillager outpost, swamp hut, igloo, mineshaft10/10all (fewer than 50 within range)
Ancient city10/1038 of 39
Stronghold9/1029 of 30 (the miss was one chunk off)
Woodland mansion8/101 of 1
Desert pyramid8/1025 of 29
Jungle temple8/1023 of 28
Trail ruins7/1042 of 49

Mansions, desert pyramids, jungle temples and trail ruins only generate on suitable terrain, which the map can only estimate. Their results carry a "check in game" note. Versions other than 1.21.1 haven't been checked against the game yet.

Frequently asked questions

How do I find structures in my Minecraft world?

Enter your seed and the version your world was created in, then tick the structures you want. The list shows the nearest ones with exact X and Z coordinates, and the map shows a marker for each.

Does the structure finder give the Y coordinate?

No, and neither does the game’s /locate structure command. Each structure’s own finder says at what height it generates, for example Y -51 for ancient cities.

Which structures can it find?

All 21 structure types in Java 1.16.5 to 1.21.4, in the Overworld, the Nether and the End. Dungeons, geodes and fossils aren’t on the map yet.

Why doesn’t a structure exist where the map shows it?

Usually the wrong version is selected, or the structure depends on terrain. Woodland mansions, desert pyramids, jungle temples and trail ruins carry a “check in game” note for that reason.

Does it work on Bedrock?

Not yet. Bedrock places structures differently, so the finder only shows Java results.

How do I find my Minecraft seed?

In Java Edition, type /seed in chat. It works in single player even with cheats off; on a server you need operator rights.
