Minecraft village finder
Enter your seed to list the villages nearest to you, with exact X and Z coordinates, for Java Edition 1.16.5 to 1.21.4.
Structures and search area
Bedrock Edition isn't supported yet
Bedrock places structures and slime chunks differently from Java, so we don't show Java results for a Bedrock world. Bedrock support is coming. Switch to Java to use the map.
Villages in numbers
- 525blocks from 0, 0 to the nearest village (median)
- 0.9villages per 1,000 × 1,000 blocks
- 34 × 34chunks per village region since 1.18
- 50/50of our results confirmed by the game
Measured with our engine on 10 test seeds, Java 1.21.1, in an area of 8,192 × 8,192 blocks around 0, 0 for each seed.
Where villages generate
In Java Edition, a village can only start in six biomes. The style of the houses follows the biome at the village centre. This is how the villages in our test areas split between them:
| Biome | Villages since | Share of villages |
|---|---|---|
| Plains | all versions | 36.1% |
| Savanna | all versions | 22.3% |
| Desert | all versions | 14.3% |
| Taiga | 1.10 | 8.6% |
| Snowy plains | 1.14 | 6.7% |
| Meadow | 1.18 | 2.9% |
| Other (village starts at a biome edge) | — | 9.1% |
Measured with our engine on 10 test seeds, Java 1.21.1, in an area of 8,192 × 8,192 blocks around 0, 0 for each seed. Biome taken at the centre of each village's start chunk.
Plains and savanna villages are the most common because those biomes cover a lot of ground. Meadow villages are rare: meadows are small patches in the mountains.
How far apart villages are
The game splits the world into square regions and tries to place one village in each: 34 × 34chunks (544 × 544 blocks) since 1.18, and 32 × 32 chunks before that. The attempt only becomes a village if it lands in one of the biomes above, so many regions have none. Our test areas held about 227 regions each and between 43 and 70 villages, so about 26% of regions get a village.

How to use the coordinates in game
- Press F3 to see your own X and Z, then head towards the village's X and Z. Height doesn't matter: villages are on the surface.
- With cheats on, tap Copy and run
/tp @s X ~ Z; the~keeps your current height. - The coordinates are the north-west corner of the chunk the village starts in, the same chunk
/locate structure #minecraft:villagepoints to. Its houses spread out from there.
Set "Search near" to your base or the map centre to list villages around a different spot.
How accurate the village finder is
We started a real Java 1.21.1 server for 10 seeds. For every seed, our nearest village to 0, 0 was the one the game's /locate found, and all 50 villages we listed were confirmed by the game. Other versions haven't been checked against the game yet.
Bedrock Edition: Java only for now
Bedrock places villages differently: they also generate in snowy taiga and sunflower plains, and they're slightly more common. A Java map would point you to the wrong places, so the finder doesn't show Bedrock results yet.
Frequently asked questions
How do I find a village in Minecraft?
Enter your seed above and pick the Java version your world was created in. The finder lists the nearest villages with exact X and Z coordinates, closest first.
Which biomes do villages spawn in?
On Java, villages only start in plains, savanna, desert, taiga, snowy plains and meadow. The house style follows the biome at the village centre.
How far apart are villages?
The game makes one village attempt per 34 × 34 chunk region (544 × 544 blocks) since 1.18, and it only succeeds in a village biome. On our test seeds the nearest village to 0, 0 was 525 blocks away for a typical seed.
Is the village finder accurate?
On a real Java 1.21.1 server, the game confirmed all 50 villages we listed across 10 seeds, and our nearest village matched /locate on every seed.
Does it work on Bedrock?
Not yet. Bedrock places villages differently, so the finder only shows Java results.
How do I find my Minecraft seed?
In Java Edition, type /seed in chat. It works in single player even with cheats off; on a server you need operator rights.
