Bedrock Edition isn't supported yet
Bedrock places structures and slime chunks differently from Java, so we don't show Java results for a Bedrock world. Bedrock support is coming. Switch to Java to use the map.

What is a desert pyramid?
A desert pyramid, also called a desert temple, is a sandstone building in the desert. Four loot chests are hidden under its floor, and it has a buried room with suspicious sand to brush. 5 things to look for inside:
- Four loot chests in a hidden pit under the blue terracotta in the middle of the floor
- Diamonds, emeralds, enchanted books, gold and iron ingots, and horse armor
- Enchanted golden apples (2.4% chance per chest)
- Dune armor trim templates
- A buried side room with 6 to 8 suspicious sand blocks that can give pottery sherds
Watch out: A stone pressure plate under the blue terracotta is wired to nine TNT blocks. Stepping on it blows up the chests and can kill you. The chest room is dark, so mobs can spawn there and set off the trap.
Where desert pyramids generate
Desert pyramids generate in deserts. They are built above ground but are often partly buried in sand, and the top is almost always above the surface.
This is how the desert pyramids in our test areas split between biomes:
| Biome | Share of desert pyramids |
|---|---|
| Desert | 100% |
Measured with our engine on 10 test seeds, Java 1.21.1, in an area of 8,192 × 8,192 blocks around 0, 0 for each seed. Biome taken at the centre of each start chunk, at Y 64.
How far apart desert pyramids are
The game splits the Overworld into square regions of 32 × 32 chunks (512 × 512 blocks) and makes one attempt in each. Our test areas held about 256 regions each and between 0 and 17 desert pyramids, so about 4% of regions got one.
| Measure | Closest seed | Median seed | Furthest seed |
|---|---|---|---|
| Nearest to 0, 0 (blocks) | 569 | 1,958 | 3,240 |
| Number in 8,192 × 8,192 blocks | 17 | 10 | 0 |

The median is a typical seed. Yours can be much closer or further, which is why the finder lists results for your exact seed.
Tips for finding and exploring desert pyramids
- Don’t step on the blue terracotta in the centre. Dig down next to it instead.
- If the pyramid is mostly buried, get in through the window at the top, and watch out for fall damage.
- Bring a brush for the buried side room: each suspicious sand block gives one item.
How to use the coordinates in game
- Press F3 to see your own X and Z, then head towards the result’s X and Z. Desert pyramids are on the surface, often half-buried in sand.
- With cheats on, tap a marker or Copy and run
/tp @s X ~ Z; the~keeps your current height. - The coordinates are the north-west corner of the chunk the desert pyramid starts in, the same chunk
/locate structure minecraft:desert_pyramidpoints to.
Set “Search near” to your base or the map centre to list desert pyramids around a different spot. To see desert pyramids next to every other structure type, use the structure finder.
How accurate the desert pyramid finder is
We started a real Java 1.21.1 server for 10 test seeds. Our nearest desert pyramid to 0, 0 matched the game’s /locate on 8 of 10 seeds, and the game confirmed 25 of the 29 desert pyramids we listed. Depends on the terrain, which the map can only estimate, so some results may not exist. Check in game. Other versions haven’t been checked against the game yet.
Bedrock Edition: Java only for now
On Bedrock, desert pyramids generate more often than on Java. A Java map would point you to the wrong places, so the finder doesn’t show Bedrock results yet.
