Structures and search area
Bedrock Edition isn't supported yet
Bedrock places structures and slime chunks differently from Java, so we don't show Java results for a Bedrock world. Bedrock support is coming. Switch to Java to use the map.

What is an ocean monument?
An ocean monument is a big underwater prismarine temple guarded by guardians. It is the only place to find sponges, and it has a hidden room of gold blocks. 4 things to look for inside:
- Prismarine, dark prismarine and sea lanterns
- A treasure room with 8 gold blocks hidden in dark prismarine
- Sponge rooms with about 30 wet sponges (not in every monument)
- Three elder guardians: one at the top and one in each wing
Watch out: Guardians spawn around the monument. The three elder guardians give you Mining Fatigue III, and you can drown.
Where ocean monuments generate
Ocean monuments generate on the seafloor in the four deep ocean biomes. The structure is 58 × 58 blocks and stands on pillars that reach the ocean floor.
This is how the ocean monuments in our test areas split between biomes:
| Biome | Share of ocean monuments |
|---|---|
| Deep lukewarm ocean | 34.6% |
| Deep ocean | 32.7% |
| Deep cold ocean | 23% |
| Deep frozen ocean | 9.7% |
Measured with our engine on 10 test seeds, Java 1.21.1, in an area of 8,192 × 8,192 blocks around 0, 0 for each seed. Biome taken at the centre of each start chunk, at Y 64.
How far apart ocean monuments are
The game splits the Overworld into square regions of 32 × 32 chunks (512 × 512 blocks) and makes one attempt in each. Our test areas held about 256 regions each and between 16 and 40 ocean monuments, so about 9% of regions got one.
| Measure | Closest seed | Median seed | Furthest seed |

| Nearest to 0, 0 (blocks) | 154 | 516 | 1,933 |
| Number in 8,192 × 8,192 blocks | 40 | 24 | 16 |

The median is a typical seed. Yours can be much closer or further, which is why the finder lists results for your exact seed.

How accurate the ocean monument finder is
We started a real Java 1.21.1 server for 10 test seeds. Our nearest ocean monument to 0, 0 matched the game’s /locate on 10 of 10 seeds, and the game confirmed 50 of the 50 ocean monuments we listed. Other versions haven’t been checked against the game yet.
Bedrock Edition: Java only for now
On Bedrock, monuments always generate at the same height, with the top of the roof at Y 56, and they can also generate in deep warm oceans. A Java map would point you to the wrong places, so the finder doesn’t show Bedrock results yet.
