Structures and search area
Bedrock Edition isn't supported yet
Bedrock places structures and slime chunks differently from Java, so we don't show Java results for a Bedrock world. Bedrock support is coming. Switch to Java to use the map.

What are buried treasure?
Buried treasure is a single loot chest hidden under a beach. It is the only place to get a heart of the sea, which crafts a conduit. 5 things to look for inside:
- A heart of the sea, in every chest
- Iron and gold ingots
- Diamonds and emeralds
- TNT and prismarine crystals
- A potion of water breathing
Where buried treasure generates
Buried treasure generates under beaches and snowy beaches, and it can also be underwater. The chest is almost always buried, usually under sand or gravel.
This is how the buried treasure in our test areas split between biomes:
| Biome | Share of buried treasure |
|---|---|
| Beach | 64.9% |
| Snowy beach | 5.6% |
| Other biomes at the sampled point | 29.5% |
Measured with our engine on 10 test seeds, Java 1.21.1, in an area of 8,192 × 8,192 blocks around 0, 0 for each seed. Biome taken at the centre of each start chunk, at Y 64.
How far apart buried treasure is
The game rolls a 1% chance in every chunk instead of using big regions, and the roll only counts in a beach biome. That is why buried treasure is common along coasts and missing inland.
| Measure | Closest seed | Median seed | Furthest seed |
|---|---|---|---|
| Nearest to 0, 0 (blocks) | 86 | 585 | 1,216 |
| Number in 8,192 × 8,192 blocks | 112 | 65 | 43 |
Engine results for the 10 test seeds, Java 1.21.1. Placement: 1% chance per chunk.
The median is a typical seed. Yours can be much closer or further, which is why the finder lists results for your exact seed.
Tips for finding and exploring buried treasure
- The coordinates here are the chest itself: on Java it always sits at block 9, 9 of its chunk, so dig straight down at the X and Z.
- Treasure maps come from shipwreck and ocean ruins chests. You don’t need one if you have the seed.
- If the chest touches water it is waterlogged, and you may have to dig through sand, gravel or stone.
How to use the coordinates in game
- Press F3 to see your own X and Z, then head towards the result’s X and Z. Buried treasure is a few blocks under the sand.
- With cheats on, tap a marker or Copy and run
/tp @s X ~ Z; the~keeps your current height. - The coordinates are the chest’s own column, block 9, 9 of its chunk, so dig straight down there.
Set “Search near” to your base or the map centre to list buried treasure around a different spot. To see buried treasure next to every other structure type, use the structure finder.
How accurate the buried treasure finder is
We started a real Java 1.21.1 server for 10 test seeds. Our nearest result to 0, 0 matched the game’s /locate on 10 of 10 seeds, and the game confirmed 50 of the 50 buried treasure we listed. Other versions haven’t been checked against the game yet.
Bedrock Edition: Java only for now
On Bedrock, buried treasure is much more common and can also generate in stony shores and mushroom field shores. A Java map would point you to the wrong places, so the finder doesn’t show Bedrock results yet.
